i'm leavin' on a jet plane

This will probably be my last post before I leave for Kona on Thursday. Yesterday, we did our last longish bike ride. 40 miles to Waimanolo and back. It was my best ride this year and I was in my aerobars the whole time. I did get a new bike that I haven't blogged about yet, I will do that when I get back.

Today was the Outrigger Canoe Club Invitational swim. It was a 1.2 mile swim with a start at Kaimana beach. I didn't do a great time, but everyone said this race is at least 15 min harder than the Honu swim. It was really brutal out there. We were against the current for a good 3/4 of the race. Overall I was pleased. It was a hard race and I reached my 3 goals.

1. Didn't have to be rescued by jet ski
2. Wasn't last
3. Finished within the Honu time cutoff.

Before I forgot, my brother will be tweeting from the race to the account if you'd like to follow along.

Here are a few pictures from today:

I look slightly dazed here, thanks for the new suit dad:

shy ronnie, use your outside voice. we don't have time for this. let's go

I know it is old, but I seriously cannot stop watching this video:

I'm pretty sure I dream about it.

I was away all last week for a conference for work. Conference went really good (I even talked to strangers), training went OK. I think it was actually good though to rest some, my body feels better (except for the jetlag).

The most notable part of the trip was that my parents drove out since I was only about 6 hours from them in Indianapolis. They took me to Dicks Sporting Goods and I got tons of new awesome gear. I got some jerseys, shorts, a new helmet, a new speedo, and even some googles. My dad is "if draining my credit was an event in the Ironman, I would win." I love new stuff, it makes me want to workout more!

Now that I am back, reality has set in, I leave in 2 weeks for Honu! I got my airfare and bike shipping all set up today!

i reflect on my reflection and i ask myself the question whats the right direction to go. i dont know

Why are there so many people from Russia viewing my blog? In soviet Russia, blog views you!

Training is winding down. Last weekend was a really hard bike/run brick workout and this weekend is the hardest weekend for the swim, bike, and run. This weekend is the Boca Honu training weekend, which I am not going to attend this year. My original plan was "if I am going to do this race, I am going to do it right and go to training weekend." When I realistically started to look at it, going twice in 2 weeks and having to ship my bike both times just was not affordable. I will miss out on the opportunity to train on the course but many other people show up and race races that way right?

I'm starting to wake up in the middle of the night with panic attacks that I won't make the swim cutoff.

Swim: 1 hour and 15 minutes from start of race.
Bike: 5 hours and 30 minutes from start of race.
Run: 8 hours and 30 minutes from start of race.

I know that if I don't just want someone to tell me "oh you will be fine, you can do it" and tell me the truth, I need to ask my brother. He will always be brutally honest if he doesn't think I can do something. So, I sent him an email with the time cutoffs, I didn't specify to him that my fear is the swim, I just asked him "Can I do this?". His reply "Just worry about the swim, the rest is cake." I'm sorta relieved that he thinks I can do this at all, but also slightly terrified of the swim! I know what I will be doing for the next few weeks, SWIMMING!

now the king told the boogie men you have to let that raga drop

I do Tantalus so often now, that I feel like I needed to add another blog label. I remember the first time I cycled up Tantalus, which was probably about 8 months ago. I wanted to cry the entire time and wanted to give up more than anything. The only reason I completed it was because my coach wouldn't let me and there were other people watching. It is reasons like this that I LOVE training with a group. I would never do half the things that I do on my own that we get to do with Boca. And everyone is so encouraging. Even if I am the last person up that hill, everyone coming down is smiling.

Last night we did Tantalus twice, then ran for 20 minutes. I got up in 43 minutes both times and don't have the death grip on my brakes the entire time down. I was still close to last, but who cares I still did it.... twice!

i challenge you to a game of horseshoes. a game of horseshoes!

I've been dying to post those lyrics for quite a while now. Just a quick update that I signed up for the St. Jude Memphis Marathon on December 1, 2012! I am super excited to get to run my second marathon with Annie and to visit her before we head to Memphis. I've never been to Texas! I'm not sure I'll be able to do the Honolulu Marathon which is only 8 days later, but at least I can train with my same group of people for the race!
