i hear the secrets that you keep when you're talking in your sleep

Hi Friends, I have been too tired to even blog lately which probably means training is going good. I just got done with a super hard workout so I'm just going to give a quick update. 35 days until Honu!

Swimming - is going really well. I am going to all the masters swims and swimming in the ocean on the weekends so I feel like even if I'm not getting much faster, I am for sure getting stronger.

Bike - Until today I was kinda concerned because I really wasn't getting enough mileage in. My trainer workouts are going great, but I wasn't getting on the road enough. Last night me and a friend did Tantalus and today our ride as a 50 mile ride that went from Kapiolani park out to Waimanalo and back. There were some loops of Olomano (if you are familiar with that area) so there was still some hill work. I did really well and think with a little more mileage I will be fine. I am so much more comfortable on the bike, starting and stopping and turning are like second nature now.

Run - My run is solid. I am not as fast as during marathon training, but I am confident I can rock a sub 2 hour half marathon.

Ok I have to go eat and sleep now. Tomorrow is a triathlon for me. 2 hour run, 2 hour babysit, 2000 swim. I know I can do 2 out of those 3 successfully!

Also, does anyone hate the new blogger format as much as me for writing blogs?

Happy Anniversary!

Over 13 years ago I met 2 of the coolest people ever at IUP. One was Annie and her then boyfriend Jeff. Annie and me met at a crisis intervention center (yes, I actually ran a suicide hotline once) and kept in contact over the years. Yes, this is the same Annie who came to run the marathon with me just this last December. 11 years ago this weekend I was lucky enough to be included in their wedding. It still amazes me how much we changed from drinking on bars and dancing in cages, to drinking while seated and running marathons and Jeff being an Ironman now. I am glad that we have been able to stay friends and become even closer thanks to modern technology! (take your turn on Draw Something Annie)

if i had a million dollars, we wouldn't have to walk to the store

When I was planning my race schedule this year I told myself 2 things.

1. I will NOT do any races other than Honu until Marathon training starts.
2. I will never do a swim only race because that's insane and I hate swimming.

So, of course I just signed up for a swim only race the week before Honu! Why you ask? It's the freaking Outrigger Canoe Club Invitational! What can I say, I am a sucker for free breakfast buffets and the shirt is pretty awesome. Since my swim is getting better and it is only a little over a mile, I think I will at least finish the race!

Also, I need new music. Anyone have anything awesome they are listening to right now?

time cast a spell on you. but you won't forget me.

Holy shit! I just realized there are 45 days until Honu!
I'm going to diiiiiiiiiie. Ok, maybe that's a bit dramatic, but seriously I have to do a half ironman in 6 weeks.

Running is going really well. I have always been a strong runner so that won't be too much a problem for me. I am literally running the entire distance of the race every Sunday.

My swim is actually coming along too. I don't look like I'm having a seizure the entire way across the pool anymore. Last night I actually did 30 x 25 yards every 45 seconds at a fast pace. A few months ago that would not have been possible for me.

The only thing I really need to get more practice on is the bike. My longest rides have been 40-45 miles. I need to get some 60 mile rides in relatively soon. My trainer workouts have been really good lately though. My coach said my cadence is getting much better.

get into the groove

Hello blogger friends. It has been awhile since I have given a real update on my Honu training. We are now in week 3 of training and I am starting to feel like an athlete again. Week 1 was bad. Week 2 was a little better. Week 3 was really good. I made all my workouts this week and gave it max effort. I even swam 2000 meters since I was off yesterday and hiked to the top of Kuliouou Ridge. It was a nice workout and a change from the usual swim/bike/run.

Today I knew was going to be a tough workout. We met at Kakaako Park at 7am and headed off for Tantalus. I have done Tantalus before but never more than once and never after riding anything else. We rode up it, then descended the Roundtop Drive side about 3 miles. We stopped at a park and rode up a really huge hill a few times (once for me) then went back up and around Tantalus again. Then we still had to bike back to the shop! Once we got back to Kakaako we did 45 minutes of hill intervals on the grassy part of the park. Needless to say my legs HURT. I am wearing my compression socks out tonight.

Tomorrow is 2 hours of hill running following by a 2000k swim! Hope everyone is doing great out there!
