we gonna party like, party like it's the end of the world we gonna party like, like it's 2012

Hello Strangers!

I'm back! I know I haven't blogged in awhile, but I'm ready to get back into it for 2013 (famous last words). Since I blogged last I have...

1. Went to Texas to visit Annie, drive with a bunch of people to Memphis, didn't do a marathon, and then went to Pittsburgh to visit with my family for a few days. If you are interested in the race report, check out Jeff's blog entry here. We had an amazing time. I met some new friends and got to try some amazing southern cuisine.
2. Started going to physical therapy for my foot.
3. Ran twice. Literally only 2 times. Both times hurt. I finished 1 mile the first time and 2 miles the second time.

Looking back on 2012 I could easily be depressed over the injury I am still healing from, but if I look at the entire year I had some great accomplishments. I did some races in the North Shore swim series, and the biggest accomplishment of all was I did a half Ironman. I can't complain about that.

Looking forward to 2013, I can honestly say I am excited to get back to training. I have the hardest race of my life in a little over 5 months! My Ironman Cairns!

Happy New Year Everyone!

here's to the next time

I have finally accepted the fact that I am indeed not doing the marathon this year. Those that know me well are probably not shocked to hear this, but I am actually shocked. It wasn't until yesterday when Annie told me that she sold my bib (I had told her to) that I realized that I am for sure out of the race this year.

I'm torn how I feel about this. I still get to go to Texas and Memphis to watch the race. I have done other marathons, but this was to be my first out of state marathon. And I was really looking forward to running again with Annie. That was really amazing last year to get that opportunity, but I guess that doesn't mean that it's the last time I can do it right?

Sorry Annie, that I can't run with you... but I am very excited to be there for you to watch!

More important I need to be better for Ironman in June. I've done absolutely no exercise (unless you count walking my ass off in Vegas) for about 4 weeks now. It's time to get back to it. I cannnot run or swim for sure as I have two partially torn ligaments that hurt like a MF'er most of the time. But I need to get back to doing core and arm stuff. As I was told "youre abs aren't broken, do some situps." As soon as I get back I am going to start working with my coach to get back into the groove. I can't wait to get back to working out!!!

if i could turn back time

I am running a marathon in a little over a month. On Thursday if I don't run, it will be 2 weeks since the last time I have run.

I have rolled my ankle about 4 times in the past few months. The last time I did it, it was fairly bad. I was on crutches for a week, out of work for a week, and still have to walk with a brace. It is black and blue and still super painful.

I'm starting to get sad and lazy. I really want to be outside running, but I am doing my best to rest and get better so I can race. I can't even swim or bike, because those motions aren't good for my foot either. I think I will be OK though. I am in pretty decent running shape so as long as I get out there by this weekend, I think I can at least finish the race. I might not dream about PR's this year though.

I am really hopeful that by Thursday I'll be able to get back out there and run a little bit.

i focus on the pain. the only thing that's real

First of all Congratulations to all of my amazing friends who completed the Kona World Championship Ironman yesterday. One of the most amazing finishes was my friend that was in a severe bike accident last week and raced with 7 broken ribs and various other bones. It was very inspiring to watch them finish one by one. I can't wait until that is me next year in Australia. Also congrats to Annie for finishing her difficult, hilly half marathon.

I've been on a slight hiatus this past week. 3 weeks ago I rolled my ankle running sprints. I was super excited the next day when it didn't hurt at all. This past week I rolled it again and it turns out it's sprained. I knew it wasn't good this time when it rolled. It hurt all the way up the left side of my leg.

This is my first experience with ktape and I have to say that I'm really pleased with it. I hope to be back to running tomorrow night. Song: Nine Inch Nails, Hurt

highway run, into the midnight sun

Hey everyone! I haven't been blogging much lately so here's a short update. I am running with my training crew and getting ready for the Memphis Marathon that's coming up in less than 2 months. I feel stronger than last year so I am hoping to achieve my goal of running a sub 4 hour marathon.

I am still swimming twice a week and I have to tell you I am getting so much better and stronger. I think sticking with it twice a week and the added yoga twice a week has really been helping my flexibility and strength.

As for the bike.... well I need to get back on that at some point.... I haven't been riding nearly as much as I want to be. Sorry this update is so boring, I will be posting a much more interesting nutrition one very soon.

How's everyone's training coming? The Honolulu Marathon is coming up!

sunday bloody sunday

Friday night I was invited to a glamorous (also free) event at the Lux at the Trump hotel. I was the good one, stayed sober, drove my drunk friend home and what happened... yep I was still too tired the next day to go and do my long run with my Boca crew. I think I am getting too old to party like a rockstar. Here's a picture from the Honolulu Pulse of me and two of my besties at the event. The theme was "Great Gatsby". My dress was borrowed from my friends 15 year old daughter.

My favorite picture from the girls clean up nicely.

As punishment for missing my run, I have to do my 14 mile run tonight, alone, before yoga.

It was still worth it!

ain't no mountain high enough

Today I had to be one of the best runs that I have had in a long time. I was a little nervous because we were doing a totally different route and that area of the island is known to be hot and not have many water fountains. The nice thing about training with my group is mobile aid stations, it is so nice to have Gatorade parked every few miles.

For those of you who are familiar with Oahu, the run today started at the old Foodland in Hawaii Kai (Annie, close to where the red party was), we went past Hanauma Bay (where we went snorkeling) to Makapu'u and then ran up to the top of the lighthouse path. It actually wasn't that hot and from all the hill drills I did awesome on the trail part up the mountain. I came a little short on mileage but for all the hills we did, it ended up being 2 hours anyway which was my target time to run. Over all, I feel like my training is going great this year. Having the experience of last year under my belt is really helping me to be a better runner this year.

76 days!
